The Books of the Seven

The Books of the Seven The following is a collection of writings concerning the Seven and their works. They are written by various authors and have varying tones. Some are scholarly writings while others have the tone of religious texts. Creation of the Universe 0 In the beginning there was the Void. The Void was all and the Void was nothing and there was nothing but the Void. 1 And into the Void came the Seven Gods. It began with the First, and then the Second, and then the Third, and then the Fourth, and then the Fifth, and then the Sixth, and finally the Seventh. 2 And with the Seventh and final god, came Time. And as the Seventh came into existence alongside Time, the Seventh was blessed with the sight to pierce Time’s veil. 3 The Sixth saw that the Void was empty so created the World. The Sixth created the Earth and the Sun to light the day and the Moon and stars to light the night. 4 The Fifth saw that the Earth was silent so created Life and Love. The Fifth created t...

Scene 4 - Cave

Edward was washing his hands in the bathroom when the door was slammed open, breaking the lock. On pure reflex Edward had both his knife and gun out in the blink of an eye. He dove to the tile floor, sliding, turning around to see his attacker and landed in a small puff of dirt on a cave floor. His knife and gun were simply gone from his hands as if they had never been there at all. This was no mirror traveling or any other traveling Edward was familiar with. Edward’s would be attacker seemed equally perplexed by this sudden change in venue. The attacker was standing a few feet away from Edward looking around the cave as if trying to convince himself it was real. Three torches of blue flame were bracketed to the walls of the cave. But there was something strange about them beyond that their flames were the wrong color. It took Edward a moment to realize what it was. The flames were flickering too slowly. It was as if they were in slow motion. They were more like trees gently swaying b...

Scene 2 - Morning Chemistry

There was something in the air, a shimmering, invisible, sense of... something . Jack Donelly couldn’t shake it off. There was something there. Intangible and utterly impossible for him to ignore. It was an undeniable presence of something unknown breathing down his neck. Jack looked around at the people all around him. They appeared unaffected by the call of this presence. And it was a call, Jack realized. A siren’s call to follow, to come. Jack just didn’t know where he was supposed to go. There was power behind the call. Somehow Jack knew that. Unimaginable power. Suddenly Jack realized he wanted to answer this unknown call, to follow it to anywhere it wanted him to go. He would follow it to the ends of the Earth and beyond if necessary. But the call was coming from all around him, summoning him in all directions. Jack looked around again, but everyone else was simply watching the professor in their usual mix of vacant stares and studious concentration as the professor droned on. T...

Scene 3 - Hunting Party

There was no talking in the car. Jack had asked a couple more questions early on, but was now silent. He had learned they were driving towards a farmhouse in the country. They should be safe there because Fae shouldn’t be able to cross the threshold. That was something Edward had forgotten. Fae couldn’t cross the thresholds of homes without the owner’s permission. But some Fae could force their way across weaker thresholds. They were kind of vague on what was a weak threshold. Jack had also learned that there was no sure way of knowing a Fairy past burning it with iron. They could hide perfectly as a human.  Jack sat in the back seat of the old Cadillac, staring out the window watching the countryside pass. They had left the city behind hours ago. The farm was hours more away.  “They make deals,” Jack said suddenly, “Sophia kept saying you were breaking a deal.” “Yes,” Edward said, “I made a deal with both of the Queens. They cannot break it but I can. The only thing is...

Scene 1 - The Musician

A man sat on a stool, leaning over his guitar plucking out a melody. His song was one of loss and mourning, a dirge for the loves of his life. The notes flowed out from his soul through the long familiar strings of the guitar. He wore blue jeans faded and slightly torn from long use. His equally well used leather shoes tapped a quiet rhythm in time with his sorrowful song. The rolled up sleeves of his red button up shirt were beginning to slide back down his forearms. His head slowly nodded over the strings of his guitar but his eyes were closed, shutting out the world around him. He was absorbed in his music. He could be playing in a stadium or a subway station for all he cared for the rest of the world. His song came to an end, the last note hanging in the air like a last kiss.  The bar was remarkably silent for a long moment. Then slowly, clapping began. First one, clap. Then more joined in and soon there was true applause. The musician bowed his head and walked over to the b...
